At the first “Mister Builders” series at Three Palms at East Ridge, the sounds of hammers filled the creative studio when the guys got together to build birdhouses.
Provided by Home Depot and the Cutler Bay store located at 19400 SW 106 Avenue, the bird cages are one of their most popular DIY kits. Home Depot supplied the kit, paint and the well-recognized orange apron for each participant.
Representatives from Home Depot were on hand to help as well as East Ridge staff and children.
“This was such a great opportunity for our male residents in assisted living,” said Ken Gould, East Ridge’s director of community operations. “Many of our residents enjoyed woodworking but haven’t had a hammer in their hands for years. It was very satisfying to have a project that could be completed in an afternoon.” Some of the bird cages will be hung in the community’s courtyard while others were taken to be gifts to families.
Everyone is eagerly anticipating the next project.
