No one knows the benefits living in a LifePlan Community better than residents and when East Ridge hosted an “Ask the Expert” event, the residents were certainly the experts.
The panel included residents Sandra Reed, Linda Sankpill and Joyce Allgood and was moderated by Hoppy Sell, director of sales and marketing. Sandra is a second generation East Ridge resident having followed in her mother-in-law’s footsteps who also lived at East Ridge; Linda is the current chairperson of the community’s Town Council; and Joyce is one of the community’s newest residents having just moved to East Ridge in 2017.
When it comes to retirement planning because many people say, ‘they aren’t ready yet’, the panelists shared their personal insights about what motivated them to select East Ridge and when they knew they were ready to make a change. Unanimously, it was the upkeep of their homes and planning for future health care that were their key motivators.
“The upkeep of a home gets expensive,” explained Reed. “From the plumbing to the roof, taking care of the property became a hassle and we just decided we had enough. We’re happy we did it.”
Sankpill explained that although she and her husband had talked about moving to East Ridge they continued living in their home. When he passed away she was also burdened by the responsibilities of the upkeep of her home and decided she didn’t want to live in the home alone. She knew at East Ridge she wouldn’t be alone and if she had health problems in the future, care would be available.
Allgood, who had already downsized from a home to an residence, had visited friends at East Ridge so she knew the community and the decision wasn’t as difficult. As a newer resident, Allgood’s perspectives were from someone who is settling into the lifestyle.
The audience enjoyed their candid answers to questions and their first-hand insights. While the sales team at East Ridge offers expert advice; the panel offered some little-known benefits not usually shared. Learning from peers was very helpful the audience found.
The residents talked about how East Ridge took care of everything when Hurricane Irma was threatening South Florida and relocated them to Disney in Orlando; the convenience of concierge services that includes from mailing packages to selling postage stamps, to Saturday night movies, and maintenance services that are right there when you need them and include even changing a light bulb.
